FITUR 2010 EXHIBITORS’ LATEST NEWS

EXTREMADURA, a destination that stimulates the senses

EXTREMADURA has chosen the 30th edition of FITUR to show it is a destination that stimulates the senses. The idea behind this approach is to attract visitors wanting to avoid impersonal, mass tourism. To this end, TurExtremadura, the Tourist Office of Extremadura, will use FITUR 2010 to promote the alternative types of Tourism offered by this destination, promoting its culture and heritage, nature and people, customs and traditions.

EXTREMADURA, a destination that stimulates the senses

The main attractions of Cultural / Heritage Tourism in EXTREMADURA in 2010 are the cities of Cáceres, a candidate for European Capital of Culture 2016, Mérida and Guadalupe, towns declared World Heritage sites by the UNESCO, which, together with other cities such as Trujillo or Zafra, are examples of its historical and artistic heritage, some of which dates back to the pre-historic period.

EXTREMADURA is also using the trade fair to promote Nature Tourism. Extremadura is a land of contrasts, ideal for outdoor sports such as hiking, hunting, fishing and mountain biking. It is also a Business Tourism destination. This region offers a unique setting for conferences, conventions or incentive trips, in cities such as Bajadoz, the gateway to trade with Portugal, and Mérida, with its conference centre that blends art and functionality in a single building.

Finally, EXTREMADURA is a Language Tourism destination, with a great reputation as an accessible destination for students wanting to learn Spanish; and a Health Tourism destination with numerous thermal springs, that have been used for centuries for their therapeutic properties and are now also popular as beauty treatments, in the eight spas in the region.
