The Recovery Blueprint, one of the main tourist policy documents drawn up by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), will be the focus of discussions at an International Seminar to be held as part of FITUR 2010, on 21 January.
A highly qualified panel of experts from the European tourism sector will take part in the Seminar, which will be divided into two debate panels, and will be entitled Perspectives and Responses to stimulate recovery. In the words of the President of the WTO members, Javier Blanco, “the quality and prestige of the invited speakers will ensure that the key issues currently affecting the tourism sector will be addressed, as well as the main action plans to stimulate the necessary, promised recovery in 2010-2011”.
The Recovery Blueprint, which was adopted unanimously at the last General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation, is a guide aimed at world leaders and decision-making bodies seeking to boost the global economy, support developing countries and adopt a tourist policy for the 21st century.
After the opening ceremony of the Conference, attended by Joan Mesquida, Junior Minister of Tourism in Spain, and Eulogio Bordas and Marcio Favila, President of WTO Members and Executive Director of the WTO, respectively, Javier Blanco will introduce the Seminar and start the first panel, entitled How to understand the market and respond quickly.
Chaired by Antonio López Ávila, Director of the Executive Masters Degree in Tourism Management of IE Business School, María Garaña, CEO of Microsoft Spain and Portugal; Stephane Draper, Director of Change Stategies - Forum for the Future; Enric Truñó, General Coordinator for the Strategic Tourism Plan of the Barcelona Tourist Board; and Jorge Costa, Head of the Institute of Planning and Development of Tourism in Portugal, will take part in this first debate.
In the second panel, chaired by the President of WTO Members, the question How can tourism recovery be accelerated? will be discussed, with a special focus on the European tourist market, and will feature speeches by Ron Oswald, Secretary General of the International Union of Food, Hotel and Restaurant Workers; Felipe González Abad, Senior Adviser of Amadeus IT Group; Martin Brackenbury, President of the International Federation Of Tour Operators; Stephan Semsch, General Director of Lufthansa Spain and Portugal; and Gareth Gaston, General Director of Octopus Travel by Travelport.
The Seminar, which will start at 09.00 hrs, will be closed by Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of the WTO.
